Charlie

Charlie is your quintessential red and white English/Victorian Bulldog. We think he is between 2-3 years old. He’s a bit over 60lbs, neutered, up to date on vaccines, housebroken, and crate trained. He is in excellent health!! It’s IMPORTANT that Charlie is with someone/family who knows and understands the English bulldog breed. Charlie gets along with the other dogs. He does not seem like an overly dominant male. He might get defensive if another dog shows some dominant intensity towards him. Daily walks are highly suggested to work off his youthful exuberance. He does not react to dogs or cats while leashed on walks if you keep him focused. He has a good amount of energy but knows when to chill once he is familiar with his home. He responds to simple commands like “sit,” “no,” “come” (most of the time) and he also likes to lounge with his humans on the sofa if allowed. Charlie came from Devore shelter with some behaviors that need ongoing work. It’s clear that his previous owners did not train him and allowed certain behaviors to manifest then surrendered him because he became too much to handle. He wants to do what he wants to do and will NEED strong, consistent, handling and training in this early part of his life to make sure he becomes the great dog we know is inside him. He will dash through any open door if he thinks it’s to the outside. He will chase people, dogs, bikes, scooters, skateboarders, motorcycles, and delivery trucks. More intensive work with “sit” and “stay” is a MUST. On walks be aware of what’s around so he doesn’t pull you and knock you down if he decides he wants to chase. When 60lbs takes off, it’s a lot of momentum. He’s like a football left tackle, big, muscular, but very agile! Charlie is also very reactive to certain high-pitched noises coming from people. Crying, wailing, squealing, or any excitable sounds or activity flip some sort of switch with him and he becomes very agitated and aggressive. Jumping, waving of arms, running away all cause Charlie to go into chase mode. For these reasons, WE WILL REQUIRE CHARLIE BE IN A HOME WITH NO CHILDREN OR CHILDREN WHO VISIT.  He will need to be monitored closely will all family members until he's secure in his surroundings. We believe Charlie would do best in a calm, quiet house with calm, but assertive directions and training. When we rescued him, he had a bit of a different habit of jumping up at us in excitement. We have worked with him and that has since resolved for the most part here. The reactivity to high pitched human noises and motions is still a work in progress.

Charlie is a striking looking bulldog.  He is adorable, entertaining, loves to talk, and thinks he's a lap dog.  He adores his people and will make a great addition to your adult only family.
